THE HALE CENTER - RUTGERS UNIVERSITY
Epic has a long history of services in support of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. In January 2003, Epic was selected by Rutgers to construct a multi-phase 50,000
SF addition and renovation of portions of the existing 70,000 SF Hale Center.
The Hale Center houses all strength and conditioning facilities for the University’s student athletic
programs. In addition to over 100 machines and free weight stations, Hale boasts new interactive digital classrooms, video rooms, a 150 seat theater, meeting rooms, locker rooms, training rooms and computer labs.
In a general contractor role, Epic worked closely with the Athletic Department and various coaches to insure minimal disruption to their ongoing operations. As the project’s phases lasted nearly 20 months, continual communication related to daily changes was critical. As Hale Center is adjacent to Rutgers Stadium, safety and housekeeping were paramount through two football seasons. Renovations included a new mechanical system and complete rerouting of piping from the existing system through the existing operating facility to this new addition.
Project value was $9.7 million. Project Architect was Nadaskay Kopelson.
