District Wide Construction Manager

Paterson, NJ

Academic

Client: Paterson Public Schools

Project: Old School #2 Emergency Structural Measures

Epic’s Role: Construction Manager/ Agent

Construction Costs: $6 million ($50 million for District Wide Improvements)

Epic’s first contract for Paterson Public Schools was for emergency work.  Epic was retained on an emergency basis by the district because the school in an ongoing rehabilitation project became structurally unstable. With the district faced with the possibility of this historic 1872 school collapsing, Epic took immediate steps to protect the public and construction personnel by suspending construction operations and assisting the district with retaining qualified structural engineers. Initial emergency measures included a complete building shoring, stabilization and protection.

Additional emergency remedial measures included extensive foundation underpinning, additional structural steel members (shown is red primed steel) due to inadequate lateral bracing and masonry wall cavity grout pressure injection.  This historic building was saved and remains in use as a kindergarten annex connected to the new School No. 2 built in 1922.
