Client: Rutgers University

Project: School of Business

Epic’s Role: General Contractor

Construction Costs: $36 million

Rutgers Business School’s programs in Newark and New Brunswick moved to its new 18 story home at 1 Washington Park in downtown Newark in Fall 2009.  The move substantially improved the facilities and classroom technology and expanded capacity to meet the growing undergraduate and graduate student body.

  • 20,000 sf, 2-story addition
  • 80,000 sf gut renovation in Floors 1-5 and 9-11 in an operating building
  • In addition to overall GC coordination, Epic Interiors and Epic Millwork self-performed interior carpentry trade work

Key Highlights: Logistics of the occupied building, the green roof on the new addition, the restaurant with full service kitchen and lecture halls featuring auditorium seating were a few of the key highlights. An aggressive schedule for Fall 2009 semester completion included installation of four-pipe, hot and chilled water mechanical systems to serve the entire building.  The building also features a stainless steel ornamental 3-story stair with glass treads. The building is adjacent to the historic Newark Public Library.
