McKinley K Center
New Brunswick, NJ
Client: New Brunswick Board of Education
Project: McKinley K Center
Epic’s Role: Construction Manager/ Advisor (PMF)
Construction Costs: $10 Million
Epic provided PMF services for the new McKinley K Center for the New Brunswick school district, from the selection of the design professional through post occupancy. The project included a new, two story kindergarten center which was located adjacent to an existing school.
The new facility, dedicated to kindergarten education, was designed with a capacity of 250 students and includes classroom space, a multi-purpose room, and a library. The project was subject to review by the Department of Education during the design phase in addition to code review by the NJDCA.
Construction of the new school required coordination with the utility companies as relocation of existing services was required by the project. In addition to being located adjacent to a functioning elementary school, the project also borders a city park. At no time was the operation of either impacted by the project. The project also required the coordination of a separate on-site e-rate contractor performing telephone and technology work simultaneously with the general construction contractor’s work.
The project was completed on time and was occupied by the school district prior to the start of the school year. Contractor change orders were kept to a minimum and were negotiated to the satisfaction of all parties. Project closeout and the issuance of a permanent certificate of occupancy were achieved without any unanticipated delays. All warranty issues were resolved to the school district’s satisfaction during the warranty period and occupancy was uninterrupted.
